Welcome to Canyon Early Learning Center

  General Information

There are many reasons why you should send your child to CELC for preschool! We like to think of it as "The CELC Advantage". Here are several of the outstanding features of the preschool program at Canyon Early Learning Center:

1. The qualifications of all of our staff
All of our teachers have earned permits authorizing them to work in a preschool setting.  In addition to our preschool staff, we also have a speech therapist, occupational therapist, school psychologist, adaptive PE teacher, and special education teachers on site who help us with identifying and serving students with special needs. Since we know high quality teachers and aides create a high quality program, we seek to hire and retain only the best candidates we can find!

2. Continual training opportunities for staff members
All staff members are encouraged to attend professional workshops and conferences whenever possible. Opportunities are provide to the staff through the Los Angeles County Office of Education and the California Preschool Instructional Network. Staff development, team planning and instructional support opportunities are how staff continue to grow professionally.

3. Connections with elementary schools
We work collaboratively with the elementary schools to support children's transitions.  Preschool parents are encouraged to visit the elementary sites for Open House each spring. We send written records of student progress to the elementary sites.

4. High quality curriculum

Creative Curriculum® for Preschool is “a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that features exploration and discovery as a way of learning”.  The 38 learning objectives provide for intentional planning based on indicators that are most predicative of future school success.  The curriculum aligns with the State of California Preschool Learning Foundations and Frameworks, which serve as a guide for the knowledge and skills that children can achieve through intentional and thoughtful teacher interactions and instruction that promotes children’s early learning and development.

The curriculum provides opportunities for children to develop confidence, creativity and critical thinking skills through the exploration of hands-on investigations.  The investigations are designed to support children’s current knowledge, develop questions and to work together to find answers to their questions.

Our classrooms are alive and bustling with activity from start to finish. We know that through their play and hands-on exploration our children are engaged in the learning process and developing a love for life-long learning.
